The History of Our Church

The birthdate for the Presbyterian Church in America was December 4, 1973, and October 9, 1994, is the birthdate for Uptown Church. We recognize that our spiritual heritage goes all the way back to year one - the year of our Lord's first coming to establish His church. We came into existence because we felt the need for a strongly Scriptural, evangelical, and Reformed witness to Christ. We wanted to be part of a denomination which honors God and His word. We desired a fellowship of believers who are committed to evangelism and Christian education as the primary mission of the Church. We felt that ministers and church officers should affirm without compromise the great Biblical beliefs of Christianity.

Uptown is the first of a Family of Churches that are being started around the greater Charlotte area. Each church at first will be a daughter church, given oversight by the parent church's session through a special Metrolina Church Planting Committee. Once a new church has its own officers, then it will become a regular church, part of the Presbytery of Central Carolina. However, it will remain officially a sister church to the other churches, cooperating in evangelism, joint worship, joint mercy projects and in the planting of new churches within the Family of Churches model. Though no longer part of Metrolina Ministries by virtue of being a particular church, we are praying and working toward starting 10 new churches in the Charlotte area.
