A Letter to an Ugly Bride (A Study of 1 Corinthians)

Throughout the New Testament the church is known as the bride of Christ, and 1 Corinthians paints the Corinthian church as a very ugly or dysfunctional bride.  In this book Paul calls out many sins within the body, from disunity to idolatry to sexual immorality.  Despite the ugliness of the Corinthian church's sin, Paul continues to love them, because Christ loves his church and gave himself up for her.  Although we do not like to think of ourselves as "ugly" we should not have much trouble making modern applications from this part of God's timeless truth.

Servant Leadership:What will people become if they follow you?

Matthew 4:19 "Come follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."   With few role models of what a godly leader is and does, and with many poor role models from the world on what a leader is not, the need is great to understand the biblical qualities of a leader--mainly from the life of Jesus--and how those qualities are put into practice on a daily basis.   This Sunday School class will examine the Servant Leadership model that the word of God provides us --and how we can use this model to lead His church to be holy, to do great things for Him, and to extend His kingdom.

How Long O Lord?  Reflections on Suffering and the Problem of Evil

The last few months have been difficult for Uptown Church as we have endured suffering and tragedy in our midst.  We look to God and ask "Why?"  However, at the same time, many of us have discovered a new-found joy in the midst of this suffering.  This class will examine the role of suffering in the Christian life - our expectations of suffering, the history of suffering, our response to suffering, and the way God uses it in the life of his people.  We will also reflect on the broader problem of evil and how to respond to critics who think the existence of evil makes Christianity untenable.  Come join us to explore this important topic.

In the Beginning: Foundational Studies in the Book of Genesis

It has been said that the book of Genesis is the most important book in the Bible.  It contains some of our most precious doctrines that deal with creation, the fall, the dignity of man, marriage, God's plan of redemption, and the founding of the nation of Israel .  In addition, it is one of the most attacked books of the Bible .  Critics have claimed that it is mythological, antiquated, or proved false by evolution.  Come join us for this important class as we explore these issues and defend this foundational book.

Looking for Leadership in all the Wrong Places: A study of Judges

In so many areas of our life we are concerned with who leads us.   From our bosses at work to the politicians we vote for.   This is not a new concern for God's people.   Join us as we spend the next two months studying how the people of Israel sought a leader for themselves, suffered the consequences of their actions, and how God set the stage for a king who would bring them back to himself.   This course will push us to see how our human nature seeks to "do what is right in our own eyes" instead of seeking the leadership of Christ.
