“It’s all about who you know.” If you are trying to move up in the banking world of Charlotte, get your kids into the right college (or the right preschool), or even see the right doctor at Novant or Atrium, knowing someone on the inside can make a big difference. We live in a world where you not only need to be the candidate with the best credentials, you also need to be the candidate with the most connections. Name dropping has more or less become a necessary interview skill.

Fortunately, we get to name drop in the most important conversations of our lives – Our Prayers. Even with our sinful hearts, we can approach God’s throne of grace in the name of our mediator Christ Jesus. We do not deserve any blessing, but Jesus deserves all the blessing. When we pray in Jesus’ name, we are giving the most important name drop of our lives. The Holy Spirit brings us into union with Christ so we can approach the Father of all blessings. Prayer is an offering up of our desires unto God for things agreeable to His will in the name of Christ, by the help of His Spirit, with confession of our sins and thankful acknowledgement of his mercies. Prayer is a beautiful blessing. We have access to God and can lay our desires at His feet. Jesus encourages us to name drop. He tells us that we don’t deserve to even begin to have the conversation, but he will give us access to the Father and mediate the whole conversation. He encourages us to go and ask bold and big things of God and know that we can expect great things in return. Jesus is mediating our prayers right now because he loves us and we need it. We should delight in praying and look forward to God’s response.
