If I were to tell you that Mary Poppins Returns will be the greatest cinematic masterpiece to ever hit the silver screen, there is a slight chance you would believe me. You know from experience that the first Mary Poppins was a great movie. It was one of my favorite movies as a child, so I could be considered an expert of sorts in the world of Mary Poppins. There is a small amount of likelihood that my testimony is enough to convince you. But, imagine if a panel of your five favorite movie producers came to your house and told you, “We have seen Mary Poppins Returns and it is the greatest film we have ever seen. We don’t think anyone will make a film ever again because no one will ever tire of watching this movie.” You might take this claim a little more seriously. They are experts in their field and all give an unanimous account of the same exact thing. Their testimony is much more trustworthy than mine.

As Christians, we believe that Truth comes from God. God reveals His truth to us in the Scriptures. This week we are talking about the Perseverance of the Saints. How do we know that God’s people are guaranteed eternal life? Because of the testimonies given by God Himself in Scripture and in the Church that unanimously say that Christ gives us eternal life. This is a much more serious and hopeful claim than Mary Poppins being a good movie, so it has much higher and more trustworthy testimonies of its truth. If you put your faith in Christ Jesus for salvation, you can know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you have eternal life.
