Last week, Dave Kulp called Uptown Church to renew our commitment to Christ. If you were unable to worship with us, I highly encourage you to listen to the sermon here. I don’t know about you, but even after renewing my commitment, I continued to sin this week. Worse, I sinned in the same ways I did last week. I may have done a little better, but still fell short of God’s holy mark. Even after a fresh reminder of all that Christ did on the cross, we still fall into sin. I don’t know how many times I’ve gone through spasms of road rage while singing along to K-Love or listening to a Christian podcast. We are told week after week of the greatest event of human history, that God Himself came down from heaven and took on flesh so that we might put on His righteousness, but we still forget!

How do we keep moments of intimacy with God from being mountaintop experiences, but turn them into a lasting relationship with Him? Even the people who knew Jesus most intimately in His earthly ministry could not live in perfect obedience. In Mark 9, James, Peter, and John all saw glorified Jesus on top of a mountain speaking with Moses and Elijah. The rest of Mark 9 is filled with stories of those same disciples not having faith. God knew this would be a problem for all of us and instructed His covenant people in Deuteronomy 30. God loves His people and will not let them fall out of His hands (John 10:22-30). Know that no matter how far you may have stumbled this past week, month, or even years, God calls you back to repentance and to humble reliance upon Him.
