During this Thanksgiving season, it’s appropriate to give thought to the reasons we have to be thankful. Each year when my wife and I gather with her family for Thanksgiving, before we eat, everyone takes a few minutes to say what they’re thankful for. There’s nothing quite like it, sitting around a table full of food to tell each other what in the past year we’re thankful for. In Psalm 103, David does something very similar. As he lifts his praises to God, David is basically listing off the things that he has to be thankful for as a result of what God has done. Here are the things he mentions:

1. God forgives all his iniquity
2. God heals all his diseases

3. God has taken him from the pit and put him in a place of royalty
4. God satisfies him with good
5. God renews him and gives him strength
6. God works justice for the oppressed
7. God has revealed Himself to His people through His word
8. God is merciful and gracious
9. God removes our sin from us as far as the east is from the west
10. God’s love for us extends to the heavens
11. God loves His people as a father loves his children
12. God rules over all

If you are in Christ, then every reason David gives for being thankful is also a reason that YOU have to be thankful. God forgives your iniquity, heals your diseases, makes you His child, etc. We have all the reason in the world to be thankful this holiday season. As we come to worship, let us do so filled with thanksgiving for the ways that God is at work in our lives.
