RESPONSIVE READINGS
Corporate Confession : From Isaiah 6, Genesis 19, & 1 Corinthians 6
Leader: Holy, holy, holy are you, O Lord, and the whole earth is full of your glory. You sit upon a throne, high and lifted up, and cannot suffer sin to stand before you.
People: But we are lost and undone! We have unclean lips and we live among a people of unclean lips! We are like Lot, numb to the wickedness of Sodom. Lord have mercy!
Leader: Lord, you’ve told us that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God, and that there is no one who does good, not even one.
People: Such are we, Lord, and we fall upon your mercy. Forgive us Lord, and wash us clean, by the power of your Spirit, and for your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Confession of Faith : Heidelberg Catechism, Q. 115
Leader: Why will God then have the Ten Commandments so strictly preached, since no man in this life can keep them?
People: First, that all our lifetime we may learn more and more to know our sinful nature, and thus become the more earnest in seeking the remission of sin, and righteousness in Christ; likewise, that we constantly endeavor and pray to God for the grace of the Holy Spirit, that we may become more and more conformable to the image of God, till we arrive at the perfection proposed to us, in a life to come.
