Confession of Sin : Based on Ephesians 4, Romans 12, 2 Timothy 3, and Psalm 25

Leader:    Lord, in your love and mercy, you have given your word for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness, that we might be complete and equipped for every good work.

People:     But we fail to know or understand your word as we ought. We are tossed to and fro by the winds of false doctrine and the waves of human emotion. Forgive us, Lord. Makes us to know your ways, and teach us your paths.

Leader:    Father, you have established the primacy of love among all virtues, and you tell us to speak the truth in love to one another, that we may all grow up into Christ our head.

People:     We repent for caring more for our individual feelings and experiences than we do for each other’s knowledge of the truth. Give us wisdom to equip each other in love.

Confession of Faith : Westminster Larger Catechism, Q. 157

Leader:    How is the Word of God to be read?

People:     The holy Scriptures are to be read with an high and reverent esteem of them; with a firm persuasion that they are the very Word of God, and that he only can enable us to understand them; with desire to know, believe, and obey the will of God revealed in them; with diligence, and attention to the matter and scope of them; with meditation, application, self-‐denial, and prayer.
